Water-babe Urvashi Sharma reveals her mantras to stay cool this summer...
Summer time for me is the perfect excuse not stepout in the sun, unless it’s for a dip in the pool. I think there’sno better way to beat the heat than swimming. I love the sport and whetherit’s summer or winter, it’s also something I swear by to stay fitand I don’t think there’s a better full body work-out than swimming. The liquid in-take naturally goes up during the summer, however,it’s never been an appetite-killer for me. I still have to have parathasfor breakfast and have my full meals through the day. I just can’t dowithout khaana. As far as cooling drinks are concerned, I am completely intohome-made concoctions like Gond ka teera and other recipes that includeingredients like sattoo ka atta. They are natural coolers and I prefer theseover milkshakes or ice-creams. My salad intake is high as well, so my dietcontains a lot of cucumbers. And of course the water and fresh fruit juiceconsumption is very high too.As for going away to some cooler placesto spend the summer, well, I love this city too much to be able to stay awayfrom it for more than a few days. So, even though I do tend to take off toplaces like Goa or Bangkok for a few days when on a break, I miss the city, itsvibe, my friends and family too much and can’t wait to get back.
I willsoon be heading to the US though for a few weeks. I really thinkthat if you eat right, then the soaring temperatures shouldn’t bother youmuch. And there’s no better way to beat it than to know how to stay cool. So, who’s afraid of thesun?Drink lots of water and keep yourself well-hydrated through theday. Don’t give in to the temptation of aereated drinks. Try naturallycooling drinks instead. And avoid spicy food too.Never step outwithout a generous application of a good sun-screen lotion. If youlove swimming as much as I do, then, don’t forget to use a real goodshampoo and soap to get rid off that chlorine in the water.
